Marvel's Wolverine FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about the PS5 game Marvel's Wolverine.

When did Marvel's Wolverine release?

September 15, 2026, worldwide on PlayStation 5. Sony announced the late-2026 window at the September 2025 State of Play and locked the exact date on February 24, 2026. Reviews went live September 10 under embargo, landing at 77 on Metacritic.

What platforms is the game on?

PS5 only — there is no PC, Xbox or PS4 version. It is a Sony first-party exclusive built by Insomniac Games, with dedicated PS5 Pro enhancements (a 60fps Performance Pro mode using PSSR, and a 30fps Fidelity Pro mode with advanced ray tracing). Sony has announced no ports.

How long is the campaign?

About 20 hours for the story, spread across 30 missions in three story acts: Canada, Japan and Madripoor. A platinum-trophy run takes 15-20 hours per PowerPyx's launch-week guide, because the collectibles route and the story route are essentially the same route.

Is the game open world?

No — it is deliberately linear. After three open-world Spider-Man games, Insomniac built Wolverine as a mission-based action game with short exploration pockets (collectibles, Nightmare Doors) between combat encounters. Reviews note invisible walls and on-rails stretches as the tradeoff for set-piece density.

How does combat work?

Fast, gory melee with no stamina meter: light-and-heavy claw strings, a timed parry against blue-glowing attacks, brutal takedown finishers, and specials — Tornado Spin from the prologue and the Helix Claws blast from the Japan act. Berserker Rage climbs three tiers, and Jean Grey's blinding ability opens stealth-kill chains when she is with you.

How many bosses are there?

Six boss-tier encounters: Omega Red, the Sentinel Prototype, the Helix Engine survival sequence, Lady Deathstrike, Sabretooth and the final duel with Nathaniel Essex. Every one is story-required and unmissable — and every one is replayable after the credits from the Nightmare Cabin.

How many suits are in the game?

Thirty-two at launch: story unlocks, crafted suits (materials from the 68 Material Crates), Digital Deluxe extras and one secret suit for finding all 20 Whisky Bottles. Crafting suits upgrades your health bar — 20 crafted standard suits fully upgrade it for the Adamantium Armory trophy. Each suit ships with independently equippable claw cosmetics.

How many trophies are there?

Forty-two: 1 Platinum, 4 Gold, 9 Silver and 28 Bronze. Zero online trophies, zero missable, zero glitched at launch, and difficulty never matters — the easiest mode (The Man) makes you unkillable and every trophy still unlocks. PowerPyx rates the platinum 2/10 difficulty, 15-20 hours.

How many collectibles are there?

One hundred and two: 68 Material Crates, 20 Whisky Bottles and 14 Nightmare Doors. The crates feed suit crafting, the bottles and doors feed your Adaptation level (max 10), and all-finding runs pay out the Crate Collector, Full Barrel and Pathways of the Mind trophies. Nothing is missable — every mission is replayable from the Nightmare Cabin.

Does the game have co-op or multiplayer?

No. Marvel's Wolverine is strictly single-player: no online co-op, no local co-op, no PvP, and none of the 42 trophies require a connection. The Jean Grey team combos you see in footage are story-scripted companion systems, not player-controlled co-op.

What are Nightmare Doors and the Nightmare Cabin?

Nightmare Doors are 14 optional combat-and-traversal trials scattered through missions; finishing one unlocks an audio log of one of Logan's memories, and rating bronze-or-better in all 14 unlocks a hidden 15th trial after the story. The Nightmare Cabin is the post-game hub: interact with the bed to replay any mission, with a per-mission checklist of what you missed.

What are Adaptations?

The game's utility-progression layer, unlocked after the first Nightmare Gate in Mission: Homecoming. Adaptation levels rise by completing Nightmare Doors and finding Whisky Bottles (max level 10 — the Secondary Mutations trophy). Perks include the Crate Finder and Whisky Finder senses that put collectibles on your radar through walls.

Is it connected to the Spider-Man games?

Yes — it shares Insomniac's Earth-1048 continuity with the Marvel's Spider-Man series, but tells a standalone, self-contained story; you need no Spider-Man knowledge. The X-Men do not exist yet in this timeline, which is why the cast leans on Team X, Madripoor and Wolverine's solo lore.

Which edition should I buy?

The Standard edition is enough for everything, including the platinum — no DLC trophies exist. The Digital Deluxe adds cosmetic suits that do not even count toward the 20-suit Adamantium Armory tracker, and the Limited Edition PS5 bundle is a hardware purchase with the standard game inside.

Is the game very violent?

Yes — it is easily the most graphic Insomniac game: decapitations, dismemberment and environments soaked in blood are core to the fantasy, in gameplay and cutscenes alike. It carries a mature rating; there is no gore toggle reported at launch.

Is more content coming?

Nothing announced beyond launch at day one. New Game+ unlocks after the story (not needed for trophies), and the Rhysida leak that hit Insomniac in 2023 suggested more Marvel projects exist in the pipeline — but for this game, the 30 missions, 32 suits and 42 trophies that shipped are the complete package so far.
